Yes, Viper, Clifford and Python units use the same brain module, sensors, etc. but differently styled remotes. There are plenty of good brands for security these days, although most regard the Directed shock sensor as the best. The key to any security system is the installation. Making the wiring as inconspicuous as possible and difficult for the thief to find is important. Putting the siren in a place where it can be heard, but yet is hard for a would be thief to cut the wiring to or smash is also big. A couple of other brands you could look at would be Code Alarm and Prestige, which are essentially the same type of situation, same brains, different remotes. Both Directed security and the ones I mentioned above are manufactured by an OE supplier called Newtech, who markets nothing of their own. I have been in mobile electronics for 27 years, and was a factory territory rep for Directed Electronics at one point. Hope this helps.
